A Bill for an Act to Establish a Council for the Regulation of Legislative Counsel and other Legislative Practitioners, to Improve the Quality of Bills, Motions and other Legislative Documents Presented to the Legislature for Legislative Actions; and for Related Matters

Abstract

This Bill seeks to establish a Council that will regulate the activities of legislative counsel, and other legislative practitoners engaged in draftings Bills, Motions, Order Paper, Resolutions, Conference Report, Committee Print, Floor Debate, Committee Reports, etc., to improve the quality of legislative outputs, improve quality assurance and checkmate the cases of assent withholding due to errorneous Bill passage. In carrying out its mandate to improve the quality of Bills passed by the Legislature, the Council shall provide for the registration and licensing of legislative drafters in Nigeria, set and regulate the standard of practice for legislative drafters etc.
