This Bill seeks to amend the Penal Code CAP 89, Laws of The Federation of Nigeria 2004 (applicable to northern Nigeria) to mitigate the punishment provided in instances of attempted suicide by providing avenues where people in such instances can get help through counselling than by being subjected to the brutal punishment of one year imprisonment or fine or both in some instances as is currently prescribed by the Principal Act
