A Bill for an Act to Make Provisions for the Registration and Protection of Geographical Indication and for Related Matters

Abstract

This Bill seeks to regulate and protect Geographical Indication, appellation of origin of goods, the procedure for their protection and acquisition of the right to use them, the scope of protection and infringement of the rights, their relation to other industrial property rights, cancellation of their registration, and specifically to provide: (a) legal protection in respect of Geographical Indication of goods; (b) prevent un-authorized persons from misusing Geographical Indication of goods; (c) protect consumers from deception; (d) to promote goods bearing Nigerian Geographical Indication in the export market.
