This book is a study of the committee system of the National Assembly in the Fourth Republic, with particular reference to the performance of legislative functions from 2003-2013. The book focuses on the performance of legislative oversight functions of the National Assembly through the mechanism of the Committee system. This is in recognition of the significance of legislative oversight as a core responsibility of the legislature. Legislative oversight refers to the review, monitoring and supervision of the government and public agencies, including the implementation of policy and legislation. It involves keeping an eye on the activities of governmental agencies especially the executive branch on behalf of the Nigerian people. This process brings to the knowledge of the public what the executive branch is doing, and allows the electorate to determine whether public servants are serving their collective interest or not.en_US
