This Policy Brief examines the Nigeria Disability Act of 2018 and the need for enhancing the accessibility of PWDs through Legislative Intervention. Nigeria, with its diverse population, includes millions of persons with disabilities who face significant challenges in accessing essential services and opportunities. The Disability Act, officially known as the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, aims to eliminate discrimination against PWDs and ensure their full integration into society. Key provisions include: The Act prohibits discrimination in employment, education, and access to public services; it mandates the construction of public buildings, roads, and other infrastructures to be accessible to PWDs; The Act ensures equal rights in areas such as healthcare, education, and employment. Despite the progressive framework of the Disability Act, several issues hinder its effectiveness which includes implementation and enforcement of access to public buildings, etc., public awareness and education, funding and resources, monitoring and accountability among others. The significant gaps and implementation issues remain, necessitating urgent legislative and policy interventions to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all. To address these challenges, legislative intervention is crucial. Some of these include:  The National Assembly may wish to strengthen disability laws by improving enforcement, monitoring, funding, and compliance reporting to better protect the rights of persons with disabilities.  There is a need for the legislature to increase budgetary allocation to the NCPWD to support the effective implementation of the Act.  The legislature may wish to tighten its oversight of the operations of the NCPWD and other MDAs to ensure that they adhere to the provisions of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018.  The National Assembly may wish to amend the Nigeria Disability Act of 2018 to strengthen the National Disability Commission by granting it more powers, resources, and independence to effectively enforce the rights of people with disabilities.en_US
