The fingerprint left at the scene of a crime, or evidence related to a crime is the most reliable means of confirming the presence of a person at the scene, since no two individuals, even identical twins, have identical fingerprints. However, it is not always possible to obtain clear fingerprints from a crime scene. In addition, it is possible to alter one’s fingerprint by plastic surgery and other surgical techniques.
