Nigeria's political system is characterized by weak party identities and frequent defections due to a lack of ideological commitment. Unlike developed democracies where parties are defined by strong ideological principles, Nigerian political parties function more as vehicles for personal ambitions. The legal framework does not require ideological structures, leading to governance instability and voter distrust. To address this, amendments to the Electoral Act should mandate ideological education, structured party wings for inclusivity, and enhanced INEC oversight. By adopting these reforms, Nigeria can strengthen its political parties, ensuring greater stability, consistency in governance, and improved democratic accountability.en_US
