Ngara, Chris ; Ejalonibu, Ganiyu L. (2021)

Working Paper

The implementation of the National Automotive Policy has generated divergent views among major stakeholders in the industry. While the Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON) argues that the policy has led to loss of business and revenue for government, the Nigeria Automotive Manufacturers Association (NAMA) insists that the policy is a catalyst for the automotive sector to grow, with ripple effects on the national economy of Nigeria. This policy analysis highlights the focal points of the National Automotive Policy to include encouragement of local car production, establishment of assembly plants and cutting importation through raising import duties. It equally identifies issues affecting the growth and development of automotive industry in Nigeria to include poor policy implementation, high tariff, lack of fund, and poor power supply.
